A drone that caused 20 aircraft to divert landing at New Zealand’s biggest air transport hub, including an Air New Zealand flight from Tokyo to Auckland forced to divert 500 km away to Palmerston North, has appalled the New Zealand Air Line Pilots’ Association (NZALPA).

Ryanair today (Fri 15 Dec) announced that it has written to the pilot unions in Ireland, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal inviting each of them to talks to recognise these unions as the representative body for pilots in Ryanair in each of these countries, as long as they establish Committees of Ryanair pilots to deal with Ryanair issues, as Ryanair will not engage with pilots who fly for competitor airlines in Ireland or elsewhere.

Pay Inequity For Air New Zealand Pilots To Continue
The New Zealand Air Line Pilots’ Association (NZALPA) expressed its disappointment today at the decision of the Supreme Court of New Zealand to uphold the Court of Appeal’s jurisdiction to overturn the contractual right of all Air New Zealand’s Second Officer and Boeing 737 (B737) First Officer Pilots to be paid the same increase in remuneration regardless of union affiliation.
